Upgrades

Long shopping trip today at Sim Lim Square.

Went there at around 2:30 pm and didn't get out til almost 8 pm. Had a long list of things I needed to buy, including RAM for my IBM, RAM for Ash's laptop, a new router, a USB wireless adapter and Liz's new laptop.

One thing I love about going to Sim Lim is all the gadgets you tend to find when you are randomly walking around. And what I love most is when I'm shopping there alone. I can spend hours just walking around all the accesories shops, looking at random new tech items to purchase.

I was there for a good 2.5 hours before Liz came to join me and by the time she came, I had already bought most of the stuff on my list and blown a few hundred bucks. I ended up adding more items to the list as the day progressed when Ash called to ask me to buy a new handphone pouch and I realised the need to buy a new wireless mouse cos my mouse seems to be headed for mouse heaven and a number keypad so I can play FFXI with D.

After spending 2 hours with Liz while she tried to decide between buying a MacBook and a Asus (I finally convinced her that even though the Asus was black, it was a waaaaaay more powerful machine at a waaaaaaaaay better price), we headed to Funan to redeem the free gifts that the Asus came with. Unfortunately, they had run out of free gifts and we went there for nothing. Being the demanding consumers we were, we managed to convince them to deliver the free Altec Lansing speakers to our office when the new stock arrived.

Headed back home to start installing the new stuff we had bought. Liz is now happily playing with her new Asus while I've finished installing the new router, added RAM on both my own and Ash's laptop, swapped hard disks from Liz's old dell back onto her portable and am now in the process of downloading Norton Ghost so I can install a bigger hard disk on my laptop. The addition of 1 GB RAM onto my IBM makes a huge difference. It's starting up much faster now and with the addition of the new hard drive, I think it's going to be a much more powerful machine. The only problem will be properly ghosting the old hard drive so that invisible IBM boot partition actually gets copied over as well. Have done a bit of research online in regards to this and will know tomorrow if the advice given by various experts actually works.

It's been a fairly good weekend leading up to the mad week. Will be heading over to Bintan on Thursday for the long and awaited BINTAN trip... Hope it goes well and after this week, I can finally breathe again!

Yay for upgrades! Ash's new phone and upgraded laptop RAM, Liz's new laptop and my own souped up IBM!
