First Night In Taiwan

Original Xanga entry ↗

So my dad's flight finally arrived at 9:45pm and he only managed to get out at around 10:30 pm. Between 8:30 pm and 10:30 pm, I played some NDS and walked around the airport terminal, trying to figure out what else I could do there. I finally realised there was nothing except to sit around, wait and observe people.

I noticed that many of the guys who were waiting for their wives/girlfriends(?) brought enormous bouquets of flowers. This was just one of them. Some also brought along little dogs to wait. I'm amused at how many tinny dogs I saw being carried around in tote bags. Didn't manage to get a picture though.

My first cup of milk tea in Taiwan. I was getting cold, so decided to get myself hot milk tea. The tea here is definitely more fragrant, or is it just my imagination?

Huge painting of horses above the arrival hall. Have no idea what it means though and I couldn't read the chinese words on it.

After Dad managed to get out of the airport, we caught the last coach to the city and were on our way to the hotel. While we were on the coach, he shared with me our itinerary for this trip and I must say, I am looking forward to the 4 days 3 nights tour of Taiwan, especially since we will be staying at 5 star hotels throughout.

Broken seats in the coach we took to our hotel. I'm amazed that they allow a coach to continue operating with the seats fallen like this.

The Howard Plaza Taiwan where we are staying for the next five nights. Service has been good so far and the staff are really polite.

Why is the Information Counter called Mail Information? I have my doubts about how good their Chinese -> English translation is.

Hotel lobby, which is the only place I have seen with Chinese New Year decorations so far.

Our hotel room, really Chinese style, but very nice.

The twin beds. I'm sleeping in the one near the wall.

Pretty nice bathroom, although a bit small.

Most important part of the hotel room... The BATHTUB! Yay! Totally going to indulge in some nice warm baths!

After we got settled in the hotel, we headed for some supper. Dad brought me to a small place that sells noodles and assorted taiwanese small dishes (xiao cai). The food was pretty good. I had mushroom and shredded meat beehoon soup and we ordered tofu, kangkong and stringray. All done Taiwanese style and tasted really great!

Overall look of the restaurant

Second Aunt's Beehoon Soup?

Old school menu!

After eating until I could eat no more, we headed back to the hotel at around 1 am so we could both get some sleep. First day in Taiwan was officially over.
