Original Xanga entry ↗THE ONE ABOUT TRIP USA (PART 2 - LAX -> DTW -> CAE)
(This is going to be a long ass entry!)
12th September 2005
I boarded the plane
at the LAX airport quite tired and managed to fall asleep easily. I was
slightly nervous, thinking about meeting Chris for the first time, yet
at the same time, I was excited. The trip was quite uneventful. I got
my window seat as usual. The interesting thing was when they woke us
for a morning snack and I managed to view the beautiful sunrise over
the horizon.
I
arrived at the Detriot, Michigan airport at around 7:30 am and managed
to meet Lorrie by 8 am. It was so exciting to finally meet someone from
Prophecy for the first time! (Other then the Singaporean mudders of
course) Lorrie was awesome and she brought me some candy that Melissa
had made. She also brought me a bag of gum since she knew that its
banned in Singapore LOL! We sat around at the baggage claim area for
about 90 mins, excitedly talking about life, Prophecy and the people
whom we know. We remembered to take a picture and got the lady at the
ticketing counter to take this shot for us.
to go as my plane was going to depart at 10. We hugged and Lorrie
promised she would try to make it to Detriot again on Friday and bring
Melissa with her. I had to rush thru the security check at the airport
and because I was afraid of being late, I didn't remove my laptop from
my bag during the Xray check. BAD IDEA!!! I got held up as they had to
remove my laptop, check my bag again and run my laptop thru the Xray
machine again. That made me even later! And on top of that, I found out
from the security lady that the gate I was meant to board from was all
the way on the OTHER side of the terminal! I was like OMFG!!! I'm going
to be late and miss the flight!~
Once I had been given the all
clear, I rushed off in the general direction of the boarding gate,
hoping that I wasn't going to be late. Imagine my emotions when I got
there and found the gate was CLOSED!!!!! There wasn't even a service
lady at the desk!!!! I almost started crying, until a nice guy who was
sitting on the chairs outside the gate looked and me and went "We're
still waiting to be boarded..." He then moved over and offered me a
seat, seeing how I was trying to balance 2 jackets, a backpack and a
pull-along luggage. Finally, at 9:45am, the service lady came along and
we all queued up to board the flight. I found out when I got on that it
was probably the tinniest plane I had ever been on, with only 12 rows
of 4 with an aisle in the middle. I settled down on the plane and
called Chris to let him know I was on my way to Colombia and he
promised he would try to be there on time to pick me up.
I was
quite calm during the flight, reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
on my gameboy, trying to not let my mind wander too much and make
myself more nervous then I already was. We flew pretty fast and so
touched down at 11:30am instead of 11:50am. Since I knew Chris wouldn't
get off work til sometime after 12, I amused myself in the bathroom,
touching up my makeup and making myself look pretty. I then proceeded
to go down to baggage claim where I promptly discovered that my luggage
was missing! YAY!!!! The carousel where it was supposed to be was
empty. And no one at the baggage claim counters could tell me where the
bags were. I walked around aimlessly for a bit, getting slightly
anxious, but being pretty sure that my bags were somewhere in the
airport. Finally, I managed to speak to a nice lady who told me that
bags which were unclaimed were normally sent to the airline counters.
She directed me upstairs to where the Northwest Airlines counter was
and LO BEHOLD! My bags were sitting prettily at the counter! Once I had
settled down with my bags, I proceeded to call Chris and found out that
he was back at the store and would be coming along to pick me very
soon. I was HIGHLY nervous by this time and sat around fidgetting for a
good while before deciding to read on my gameboy again.
At
around 12:45, Chris walked in and swept me into his embrace for a nice
long hug and kiss. We had finally met!!!!! Needless to say, it was
wonderful! It felt so right, almost as if we had known each other all
along and I chatted with him excitedly as we walked towards the car. He
drove me to the store where he had to finish up some paperwork before
bringing me home with him. Once we got to his place, the first thing he
showed me was this ADORABLE PINK Stuffed mushy doggy toy that he had
gotten me. I love it! He had even rubbed some cologne on it so that it
smells like him! *HAPPY HAPPY* We spent the day getting to know each
other better and I unpacked some of the stuff I had brought for him
before going to his college to get some homework done and heading to
the park to walk with his mom.
His mom, Cindy, was really really
nice. It was hard to imagine that someone who looked so young and
pretty was a mom. She made me feel right at home, even though I had
been so nervous before meeting her. She did ask some pretty
"interogative" (my own made up word) questions,
but overall, it was cool. After walking for about an hour, we went to
Zorba's (a Greek place) for dinner where I had a HUGE ASS salad which I
couldn't finish. I managed to tuck into about a third of it and we
ended up taking the rest home.
13th September 2005
We
woke up pretty late the next day and proceeded to drive about 2 hours
to Spartenberg to meet Liza. Liza is the most adorable girl and her dog
Jasper was just as cute! We had lunch at Wade's or actually, we bought
lunch at Wade's and went to a park nearby to have lunch. Jasper fell in
love with Chris and was constantly sniffing him up while we were at the
park. We managed to get someone to take a picture for us before having
to head back as Chris had to go to class.
As you can see Jasper was just adorable! And if you look closely, you can see the remnants of our lunch behind us.
And here's a picture of me and Chris looking absolutely happy!
SO after leaving
Liza, we headed back to Colombia and were going to prepare for Chris to
go to class, but he ended up deciding to skip and we sat around for the
rest of the afternoon before getting ready to go to dinner with his
parents. We got all dressed up nicely and went to a fancy restaurant
downtown called "California Dreaming" where I once again proceeded to
have a huge ass salad which I couldn't finish. Cindy and Justin (his
stepfather) were ADORABLE together and they were so warm and friendly.
My only regret about the night was that even though I brought my
camera, I forgot to get a picture taken cos I was having so much fun.
After dinner, we headed to the grocery store to get me some OJ and also
to Cindy's so we could pick up his childhood photos. Chris was SOOOOO
CUTE as a kid and I feel absolutely justified in calling him CCC.
14th September 2005
So the next day, we
woke up and proceeded to have watermelon for breakfast while attempting
to watch some Cowboy Bebop. We didn't get further then 1 episode. We
lounged around a bit before heading to Walmart cos I wanted to get
facial wash and I also wanted to cook lunch. We bought beans, chicken,
beef and rice and I proceeded to cook lunch when we got home. I made
Emperor's Chicken, Beef Rendang and fried French beans with rice.
Chris, Bill and Brad (his roommates) loved the food and absolutely ate
it all up. Felt so happy to be feeding people again! Chris studied for
his test while I was cooking lunch and after lunch, he headed off to
class while I stayed home and napped for a bit before waiting for his
mom to come pick me up. She had wanted to bring me to do something as
she felt it was boring for me to stay home while Chris was at school.
Unfortunately, she came down with a bug of some sort and was sick so
she didn't pick me up. So I spent the evening sleeping before Chris
came home and we had leftover salad before heading out to the sports
bar to meet some of his friends.
Chris played some
good games of pool, kicking everyone's ass and I played 1 game with
Bill where I actually managed to win! Lol!
Here is me setting up the game against Bill.
And here is me and Chris at the bar.
We went home at
around 12:30, with Brad in the car swearing that he needed another
drink and that we should head someplace else for him to complete
getting drunk. We ignored him and just made him go home to continue
playing World of Warcraft
15th September 2005
I wanted Chris
to bring his mom some flowers as she was sick yesterday, but funnily
enough, she called and told Chris to buy me some flowers (LOL!!!!) We
didn't do anything today as Chris has a test and he had to study
for it. We had a lazy breakfast before Chris went off to class and I
started packing for my journey to Maine tomorrow. I got Bill to drive
me to get some groceries so that I could cook dinner. I cooked
Thai Green Curry and fried 5 Spice Chicken for dinner. While I was
cooking, Chris called and said that his friends Shelley and Woody might
be stopping by for dinner. That caused me to fly into a panic on
whether I had enough food for everyone. Fortunately, they decided
to stop for dinner someplace else and so I proceeded with my
initial cooking plan. I also made some Almond Jelly with Longan
for dessert.
We were having
dinner when Shelley and Woody stoped by and they were really nice!
It is always cute to meet a gaming couple and it was fun to
sit around listening to them discussing WoW. After they left, we
finished up what we wanted of the food and proceeded to spend my last
night in Colombia together. It was very sad as the 4 days had flew past
so fast. I could hardly believe it, but it was almost over. I had
attempted to try and extend my stay there, but due to the nature of my
heavily discounted air ticket, it was impossible. So instead, we just
spent a quiet evening together, enjoying each others company.
16th September 2005
We woke up very early
as Chris had to go to work. While he was at work, I proceeded to finish
packing my things and getting ready for my flight to Maine. I walked
around the apartment, taking in everything and even snapped some
pictures. Its interesting to see the way the TV is setup in bachelor
pads.
Although I have to admit, Chris' bedroom is very much different from most bachelor bedrooms.
We almost had a fight
because he didn't know if he could drive me to the airport, but he did
rush thru his first onsite job and came back to drive me to the
airport. It was so hard to say goodbye. I tried to be brave, but I
definately did cry a whole lot while waiting for him.
He arrived and after
he had loaded my things into the car, we woke Bill up and got him to
take one last picture for us in front of Chris' car and apartment.
Because Chris still
had to go back to work, he drove me to the airport and droped me off at
the same ticketing counter where he had picked me up 4 days prior. With
a hug and a kiss, he went off and I was ready to start the next leg of
my journey.
