THE ONE ABOUT TRIP USA (PART 3 - CAE -> DTW -> PWM)

16th September 2005

I boarded the plane at the Columbia airport after having spent some
time waiting at the airport and using the free wireless internet there.
ALL airports should have free wireless internet. Its so important! Once
again I flew to Detriot where I was to have a 3 hour layover.
Unfortunately, Lorrie's van broke down 2 days earlier, so she couldn't
make it to Detriot again. And Steve who was supposed to meet me had
gone MIA. So I spent the 3 hours on the phone with Denny after I had
figured out how to use the wireless internet (which I paid $6.95 for)
and log onto Skype to make phonecalls.

Denny was driving up to Maine to pick me up while I was chattering his
ear off on the phone. He expressed his doubts and concerns to me, but I
reassured him that everything was going to be fine. I boarded the plane
at 5:30 and proceeded to experience the most turbulent flight ever! It
was rocky rocky rocky and when the plane arrived, it bounced on the
tarmac! Traumatising!

Fortunately, I arrived safe and sound at the Portland, Maine airport
and Denny was there to pick me up. We hugged once I got out of the gate
and proceeded to get my bags. After calling mom to let her know I had
arrived safely, we drove to Brunswick where my mom was living and went
to Applebys where she was working. The entire drive went very well. It
seemed so odd that after having been so close for 5 years that this was
the first time Denny and I were meeting. It was even weirder because it
just felt so natural. There was no awkwardness, just a need to catch up
on lost time. We arrived at Applebys by about 9 and went into the
restaurant. Mom looked so much tinnier then I remembered and she was
bustling around when we walked in. She didn't see me at first, but when
she did, she came over and we just stood there and hugged for the
longest time.

Denny and me were then shown a booth where we sat down and had a bit of
dinner while waiting for mom. Daddy Brian showed up after a while and
we all waited for mom to get done with work. We then headed home where
I proceeded to unpack all the stuff that I had brought for her. We
stayed up a bit talking before I took a shower and changed into PJs to
sleep.

17th September 2005

Woke up to the barking of Cloudie and Dixie. I took them out for their
morning walk one after another and realised that it was slightly chilly
cos it was raining. Mom had to work today and she had made arrangements
for me and Denny to go to her friend (Melanie's) place to fix her
computer. We had all american breakfast at Friendly's, after which we
went home and Mom took out all the stuff that she had accumulated for
me over the past 4 years. There was SOOOoOOOoOoO much stuff including
bags, clothes and other assorted things! After that Mom had to go to
work and Denny and I went over to Melanie's place at about 12ish.

We stopped at around 3 something to get lunch at Wendy's and then went
back to finish up. After that, we went to Walmart where we spent some
time buy juice, nail polish, DVDs and other assorted stuff. We were
deciding if we should watch a movie, but when I found out how much
movie tickets cost, I opted out. Instead, we watched a DVD that Denny
had brought with him. Denny wanted to bring me out for mexican that
night, but the place which had been recommended by Melanie was closing
early, so we ended up going someplace else. I had a burrito which was
HUGE! I only managed about half of it before having to take the rest
home. We got the guy to take a picture for us before heading home.

Luckily, the nice guy took another picture for us and I managed to get Denny smiling! Although this picture is kinda blurry...

18th September 2005

Mom was off today so we drove the dogs to boarding before going to Augusta for lunch.

where  Dixie proceeded to jerk on the leash and cause me to drop
my beloved camera right after this photo had been taken.

We had lunch at Olive Garden where I had Mushroom Ravioli. Denny had
this thing called the Tour of Italy, which was basically a bit of
everything. Mom had pasta which she could barely finish. We also had an
appetiser platter which was just YUMMY! The portions were HUGE! But
damn, it was good!

We went shopping at Sam's although we didn't buy much and after that,
stopped at the Denny's there to meet Ken, who is like a brother to Mom
and who has the same birthday as Uncle Aminta. Then, we went home and
spent time watching family guy. Melanie called sometime in the
afternoon and told us that her computer had stopped working again, so
Denny and I went over to see what was up again. We ended up doing
another reformat and reinstallation.


19th September 2005

We woke up early and went to pick mom's friend Shelley so that we could
go to visit Grandma Dot. Shelley's house had just been renovated and
WOAH, it was nice! They had painted each room themselves and it was so
nicely put together with vibrant colors and very sweet furniture. It
seemed like something out of a showroom!

We picked up Grandma Dot and had breakfast at the Denny's where mom
used to work and I got to meet Katie who was Shelley's daughter and
also Mom's god-daughter. She's awfully pretty and I can't believe she
has 4 kids and she's younger then I am! We also went to Walmart and met
Daddy Brian's sister who works at the Walmart there. She was incredibly
thin!

We walked around the mega Walmart and bought some stuff (cereal!)
before heading home as Mom had to work. Denny and I spent the afternoon
bumming and trying to decide what we should do. We of course ended up
just chatting and napping (me being the culprit and falling asleep on
him). We packed up our stuff to get ready for our trip to Foxwood,
Providence and Boston and slept early so that we could get an early
start the next day.
