THE ONE WITH THE FAMILY GATHERING

For as long as I can remember, we've gone to God-grandma's place for mooncake festival. The story goes that when my mom was young, some fortune teller predicted that the "birth elements" of my mom and grandma were "clashing". Thus, in order for my mom to enjoy a good life, she had to get a God ma who was born on the 15th of the 8th lunar month. That person happens to be my Godgrandma now. Seeing as the 15th of the 8th lunar month happens to be the mooncake festival, it shld come as no surprise that we go over there to visit every mooncake festival.

I used to hate these kind of gatherings when I was younger. Everyone would be oohing and ahhing over how much you've grown, how much weight you've put on, how well you are doing in school and how many boyfriends you have. Now that I've grown older and wiser, I appreciate the chance to spend some time with my cousins, (who are very much younger then me) and getting to know them. I never got to know them well when we were younger cos I was just too busy, involved in my own thing. Now that I was at this age where family becomes so much more important, I've found myself to be more chatty with them, trying to find out how they are doing, how they enjoy life.

In many ways I think I've matured thru the years that I was away from Singapore. Things seem so different. And I definately have an Asian perspective of family life. I want a big family. I want a family to love one another. I want my family to grow up to be close and loving.

I take time out to call my grandma when I can. I've finally learnt that time is running out on the people I love. I want to spend as much time as I can with them. My life can wait for the precious few mins while I spend time finding out what is going on in in their lives. I want to know. I want to be involved.

I love my mom. She has made me into who I am today. No matter what anyone says, they will never be able to understand that kind of bond we have between us. The things that we have done for each other. The kind of love that exists simply because we know if the world was to end today, we would die loving each other because that's what we have been doing ever since I was born. Its the same with my brother. Although he can be a real idiot, I will always do everything I can do provide the best I can for him.

My mom's been reading my Xanga. I do not intend to close down my Xanga. I have nothing to hide for her. I'm glad that she knows I read her thoughts and feel her pain. And I'm happy for her to read mine and see how I am doing in my life. That's what being family is about.

I LOVE YOU MOM!
