Lunch, Movie, Dinner, Boardgames & a Birthday Girl

Original Xanga entry ↗

I've been having a few lazy weekends, hiding at home, nursing my PMSing self and playing FFXI. So it was with great enthusiasm that I approached last Saturday's outing. Although paintball had been cancelled, I had managed to replace it with the SATC movie and Saturday turned out to be a real blast!

Even though we had only gone to bed at 6 am (late night date with FFXI) we dragged ourselves out of bed by 10 so that we could go get Irene's hearing aid fixed. As the place was in town, I decided to bring her to Akira, the nice Japanese buffet restaurant that my uncle had brought me to a few months ago. We trudged there in the rain, stomachs growling and looking forward to some great Japanese food only to find that the apartments where it was located had been en bloc, so the entire place was closed! OMG!

Refusing the give up on the Japanese food, we headed to the Japanese restaurant on the basement of The Cathay to indulge ourselves, liberally taking sticks from the cups and ignoring the fact that it wasn't a buffet. Needless to say, we over ordered and couldn't finish the food. Plus the bill came up to over $100. I can only say OUCH!

After the overly expensive lunch which we could not finished, we watched Sex And The City - The Movie. O M F G! It was almost a laugh a minute and it reminded me of how much I missed that show. It makes me want to go back and rewatch all the seasons once again. It also makes me wonder, where will I be at 40? Who are the Carries, Samanthas, Mirandas and Charlottes in my life? It was a truly entertaining movie, punctuated by a ton of inside jokes and a reminder to myself that Love does exist, although sometimes in very strange forms.

We headed for dinner at Tao Restaurant after, and a part of me regrets having eaten so much at the Japanese restaurant. Would have been nice to check the authentic food in Tao restaurant. The stuff we did try was pretty good. And I have to say that the servers were all very enthusiastic, eager to help and made the evening quite pleasant, although I could have done without them going "Welcome to Tao's Restaurant" everytime the door opened.

Fruit Salad that was fairly yummy

Edna's fish soup presented in a teapot. This was the very same soup that Irene proclaimed as the "soup they serve with chicken rice at hawker centres"

MQ makes feeding a sick CY so natural, she doesn't even have to look her way!

We headed to the Mind Games Cafe after dinner where quite a few other people joined us. Amidst Taboo, Pictionary & Charades, we got to know some new friends. It was also amazing to find that the team with a lawyer and a teacher lost in Pictionary. We'll have a rematch soon enough though. Can't be allowing those students and teachers-to-bes get the better of us :P

The highlight of the night has got to be when MQ got them to whip out the cupcakes she had left at Minds Cafe to celebrate CY's birthday. Looking at CY's face, you could tell she was incredibly touched and couldn't help beaming from ear to ear from that moment onwards.

CY making her birthday wish... I'm sure it has something to do with her "baby MQ"

I personally had the most fun after everyone had left and a small group of us were sitting at Mr Bean, observing yet a new couple establish their own territory. This is going to be fun :)
