They Know Me, But I Don't Know Them...

Original Xanga entry ↗

Rainy day today... Woke up late for breakfast and got dressed just in time to catch some Taiwanese style porridge buffet. It's always a good feeling to sleep in at a hotel, especially with the comfy sheets to snuggle under. We went back to the hotel room after breakfast as Dad was feeling jet lagged and needed more sleep.

Emo style pic of myself in the mirror, wearing the new grey tracksuit I bought.

Woke up around 11 am and spent the rest of the day meeting a bunch of people who knew me but whom I didn't know. First of all, met the wife of my Eldest Uncle for lunch. She brought along her son Wesley and another Auntie who is the wife of my Dad's cousin. Wesley is working in JP Morgan Taiwan.
He is the second son of my Eldest Uncle. Apparently his brother, my
eldest cousin, is working for Rainmaker in Vancouver. After them both,
I'm the eldest, which makes me the eldest girl on my dad's side and 3rd
eldest overall. They talked about the other cousins during lunch and I realised that there are thirteen of us in total. The ratio of boys to girls is 7 to 6.

We had lunch at a place called "Lao Hao Shi Tang". The food was pretty good, very high class and very fresh.

Appetiser which included corn, cucumber, squid, apple, tomato, roe, dragon fruit and other assorted things.

Sashimi platter that was oh-so-fresh and oh-so-good

Gift that Eldest Aunt gave me

Turns out to be a Pearl necklace. I am rather surprised by the gift, but very touched.

As it was raining after lunch and Dad was still having some jetlag, we headed back to the hotel after lunch to rest. Fell asleep after a while and only got up just before dinner. I was introduced to my Godma and she drove us to dinner at Shin Yeh where we had Taiwanese cuisine. Dad's old classmate who was with us was very funny and we all had a lot
of laughs. He made jokes on Dad's expense and told some stories of the
mischief they used to get up to in the past.

I had beehoon soup instead of porridge and I have to say that I love the beehoon in Taiwan as its much finer than in Singapore. We also had Chai Poh Egg which was done in a different style as compared to Singapore. It might be my imagination, but somehow it seems to taste better. I think my favourite food for today must have been the handmade Almond Jelly. It's a bit chewy, ala mochi style, and totally unlike the ones we get in Singapore. Really big difference and it tasted so good :)

After the scrumptious dinner, we headed back to the hotel instead of Night Market as Dad was really tired again. He is snoring in the background now while I'm blogging. Hopefully the jetlag goes away soon so we can have more fun in the coming week.
