THE ONE WITH AN ENGAGEMENT RING, A WEDDING LUNCH AND A REALLY GREAT SEQUEL

For those who read the title and thought I was getting married soon, I'm NOT. HAHA! And yes D, I finally got around to writing my Xanga. Happy now? :P

As some might recall, Ray proposed to me in December of 2003. Right on Cottosloe beach, while we watched the sunset. It is with great unhappiness that I must announce that I lost my engagement ring. Don't ask me how, don't ask me why. It was an accident and not something I am proud of. I searched high and low for it, cried buckets and even offered rewards. All in vain though. NADA! Anyways, Ray's been really sweet about the whole thing, even promising to buy me a new ring. I really just want my old one though :(

Anyhow, I attended Laudene's wedding on Easter Sunday. It was really hilarious because she invited Edwin and Clement, but neither of them knew it was a wedding. Edwin looked really shocked when he found out. HAHA! Dene looked really great and genuinely happy. The wedding lunch was held at Grand Shanghai which was a really old school place, yet it looked so right, esp. since she wore this gorgeous white cheongsum dress. My heartfelt wishes to both her and Lee. They are embarking on a wonderful journey together and one that will bring them places. I'll miss her when she goes back to USA, but I'm sure she'll keep in touch :)

It seems like everyone is going off to get married. I recieved an email yesterday from Shaoyun. Actually, it was a posting to our JC class Yahoo Groups. He is getting married on 25th June this year and our entire class is invited. I mean WOW! One of our guys is getting married! It comes as a shock because SY was never one of the "dating" guys in JC and here he comes along and drops a wedding bomb. I've signed myself up to attend his wedding though. Wouldn't miss it for the world! Hope the rest of my class signs up so that we can have a mini reunion at the wedding :)

Of course with all this wedding talk going around, I was talking to my mom about my wedding in the future. I think I want a simple church wedding, with just family and close friends. I don't think a huge chinese banquet type wedding is for me. It would just be too extravagant and really OTT. Marraige between a couple should be just that. A union between 2 people to be share with their near and dear. Not every tom, dick and harry you've ever met in your life. Fortunately, my mom agrees with my thinking and she has no objections whatsoever on a small wedding. However, that doesn't resolve the problems of WHERE to hold the wedding. Singapore? USA? or some obscure island in the pacific? That and I'ld have to have like 5 parents at my wedding. My mom, my dad, my stepmom, my stepdad and my stepstepdad! HAHA, will be a real hoot! Think it would be fun though, so many parents under one roof :)

I think when I do get married, I will want to be sure of it. I want to be absolutely certain that it is the right thing to do, before I proceed. Seen too many people jump into getting married and end up divorced so quickly after. I mean look at Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston. Picture perfect couple gone bad! Its just so sad.

Sometimes I do wonder if love will find me like in the movie Before Sunrise. Ray and I watched it last thursday with Liz and Mel(Although Mel kinda just slept thru both movies). We watched it at Ray's place and although it was very slow and boring in the beginning, it was all worthwhile when we watched Before Sunset. I've watched a fair amount of romance movies and this has got to be one of the more powerful ones. The dialogue and chemistry between the 2 chars is what basically carries the entire movie. Their long winding walk talks reminds me of how Ray and I first started out. We used to walk and talk for hours on end and we wouldn't get bored. We could just keep on talking and somehow kept discovering new things about each other, each story bringing us closer and closer. Somehow I really miss those days. The honesty, and sheer innocence that brings 2 people together. This movie truly portrays it so well. I recommend at least watching Before Sunset. This is one of the few movies where the sequel surpasses the original. If you are a true romantic though, watch Before Sunrise first, so you can get an idea of the movie's background. It brings out so much more in the sequel and also helps you understand the intensity of the chars.

And if you're not tired of romance movies by then, watch Closer. To me, it is a true reflection of what love and society is like now. We all live in our own fantasy worlds, and when faced with reality, we all retreat into ourselves. We want what we can't have and once we have it, we end up throwing it away.  I pray to God that I won't become such a person. It shouldn't be about ego, it shouldn't be about self. It should be about sharing, caring and ultimately agreeing to participate in a life which consists of 2 people. That is what LOVE should be about. That is what LOVE seldom is about nowadays.

Oh yeah >.< and my sister said that if God intended your engagement band to go missing like that, it means that the engagement is no good. Things like that happen for a reason. >.>

Maybe God made me read your blogging and told me maybe I should get this ball rolling for good, he told that if a woman could uphold the vow of ..for better, for worse. In sickness, and in health. In wealth and poverty till death do us apart.. then she will be the one.. but I told him ..she loves shopping for shoes, gets mad if some bitch gets a pay raise instead of her and she can't afford to maintain a kidney dialysis program for me that cost 20K anually and would probably leave me for someone else. God said: Don't worry, there are plenty of fish in the sea and the right woman would come along ....I said: Hey, that's what you told me before I met her and the one before her...God: Hee.. Oops!
