THE ONE WHERE RAY HAS APPENDICITIS, I GET A DIGICAM AND WE MEET A GOOD SAMARITAN

So for those who are in the loop, they are aware that Ray got admitted into hospital last Wednesday. After some extensive poking and investigations by the inept doctors, they discovered some 15 hours later that he has appendicitis. It took them another 8 hours before they managed to wheel him in for surgery. My heart almost broke seeing him rolling around on the hospital bed, begging for pain killers. Luckily we managed to get a nice doctor who prescribed him some pain killers during the wait for surgery. However, I will now advise all my NSmen friends NOT to get admitted into CGH. It is possibly the worst hospital ever, where it took the nurse 1 hour to give us an icepack and where we could not even get a definate answer from the doctors on what was Ray's condition. Imagine our surprise when he was already on the waiting list for surgery and another doctor came along and said they could not confirm that it was appendicitis and that they had to observe him for another DAY! I mean OMG! What if his appendix had burst???!!! It could have been life-threatening!!!

Anyhow, thanks to God's grace, Ray's surgery was completed without any complications and he is now on 2 weeks medical leave to recover. The first few days after surgery was quite bad, he couldn't move around without help and the wound actually hurt alot. 12 stitches on your stomach can't be good. However, its been a week now, and he can move around more normally, although he still can't climb stairs too much and anything that uses his stomach muscles makes him wince.

So after all the bad news that has been happening over and over to me, I've been a bit depressed recently. I mean October was a really hideous month. I fell sick with fever in the first week, took me almost a week to recover and then Ray caught my virus. Right when we both sort of recovered, my grandaunt fell and I had to rush to Jakarta. 2 days after I get back, Ray ends up with appendicitis. I mean its just been a horrible horrible month and it had gotten me so down that at one point, I was just sitting around feeling sorry for myself. However, about 2 days ago, while I was on my way to Ray's after work, I met this cheerful girl who was trying to sell me a pink digicam. Now as anyone who knows me would know, I am currently in a "I-Love-Anything-That-Is-Pink" phase. So even though I can't really afford it and even though a digicam is a luxury, I bought it. And for the past 2 days, it's been making me immensely happy. I've wanted a digicam for over 2 years. I toyed with buying one SO MANY TIMES over the past 2 years that it became the thing that I couldn't have. And now that I have it, I've made it like my treasure. I'm going to bring it everywhere and start taking as many pictures as I can. Most people would say I'm nutz, but when I was in Jakarta, one of my biggest regrets was that I couldn't get more pics to keep as memories. It suddenly struck me that if I had a digicam, I can capture those moments as memories that I can share with my family and my friends. I know my mom would love to have some pics and I normally can't send her any cos I don't have a digicam and no longer own a scanner. SO Mom, you can look forward to more photos now!!! For those who are interested to see what "low-budget-cutesy-pink-digicam" I bought, click HERE. And yes, it was actually pretty cheap, for all the features it has. And the camera is really light too. It's like the perfect camera for someone on a shoe-string budget like me.

And presenting some of the first pics ever taken by my new baby:

This is my desk at work. See how I have a jug of water on my table? And there is my cactus that I've only watered twice in 6 months. I use a imac at work and it's pretty cool except it can't play any of the games I want. The pic in front of my imac is of me and Ray (if you haven't figured that out by now:P) And the little doggy that holds my mobile phone was given to me by Ray. Issn't it cute? You can't see the top of my Imac, but I have Piglet, the Nemo-pufferfish and my Unicorn beanie baby on top of it.

This is the corkboard on my wall. It has pictures of everyone who is near and dear to me. I intend to add more pictures to it as I get them. So who knows, in the near future I might post another picture and you can see how many more photos I've added!

Anyhow, things seems to have gotten better since I bought the digicam. Last night, Ray and I went to Challenger superstore to get a pink Crumpler pouch for my new digicam, and some other assorted computer stuff. On the way home, while we were queuing up for the bus, Ray realised his wallet was missing. Now, this was bad news cos well, everything was in there. His 11B, debit card, bank cards, everything, including the first photo we had ever taken as a couple and some cutesy notes which I had given him when we had first started dating. I was near to tears as we retraced our steps to figure out where he had dropped it. After combing Challenger, the MRT station and the other shops, we finally gave up and headed home. While we were on the bus home, we started arguing about whose fault it was. Ray was blaming me cos I insisted on stopping to buy a cup of bubble tea and that may have been when he dropped his wallet. I, on the other hand, felt very offended that he blamed his own carelessness on me. Funnily enough, a chinaman who was standing in front of us on the bus suddenly spoke up.

Chinaman: Did you guys lose something?
Ray: Yes...
Chinaman: What did you lose?
Me: His wallet
Chinaman(Looking at Ray): What's your name?
Ray: Lou, Raymond Lou
Chinaman: I found it. It's at the Bus Service Centre now.
Ray and Me (with mouths hanging open): OMG! Really? THANK YOU!!!!

Turns out he was in the queue behind us when we had been waiting for the bus the first time round. When we had discovered Ray's wallet was missing, we had immediately set off for Challenger, not realising that Ray had dropped his wallet in the queue. The kind samaritan had picked it up and handed it to the bus interchange's service centre. He then proceeded to take bus 72 again and that was where he met us. We quickly scrambled off the bus at the next stop and took another bus back to the bus interchange. Rushing to the bus service centre, we were relieved to find the wallet still there and everything intact. So there ARE good people in Singapore afterall, even though he was a Chinaman! :P

Well, that was a long entry... at least I'm feeling less gloomy now :) YAY!
