I have often lamented the lack of childrens books that are supportive of same-sex families available on the market so was very happy to receive an email from A.S. Chung (Amy) when she launched her new book – Wishful Wedding, A Pocketful of Pride. The book is currently available on Amazon including Kindle and Amy says it should be filtering out to the other online bookstores.
The book centres around a little girl who is attending her aunt’s wedding. She is excited to be part of the festivities, including being the flower girl walking down the aisle before her aunt. Unfortunately, she realises that amidst the happiness, her fathers are sad as they can’t get married.
Zoey and I like the beautiful illustrations and the emotive story told in the voice of the little girl. Amy manages to bring together the opposing emotions of happiness and sadness plus she adds a little hope at the end.
This is Amy’s second book under Pigeonhole books. She writes children picture books for blended, divorced, multicultural and same-sex families so I am really glad that she reached out to me to review this book. I enjoy reading it to Zoey and she is definitely engaged by the content and pictures in the book. I hope to see more books from Amy on these very important family topics.
In the meantime, enjoy this reading of A Wishful Wedding, taken during bedtime stories with Zoey.
