So I had a pretty BAD day yesterday. It was a continuous series of stupid incidents that made the day long and almost unbearable. Yet I realised that at the end of the day, my mood was ok. I was tired and hungry, but I wasn’t angry or unhappy. In fact, I found the whole day rather silly.
It started with my phone, an ASUS ZenFone 6, acting up over the weekend. It kept randomly rebooting and unmounting the SD card. Then it would not wake up from sleep mode. I obviously had to get it fixed ASAP. So I decided to send it in to the ASUS service centre on Monday morning in hopes that they could fix it on the spot. I also decided to bring in my laptop because it’s been recently doing this.
I planned to get there when the service centre opened at 9.30 am. This did not happen. First of all, the backup function on my phone took forever. So by the time it was backed up, it was 10 am and I had missed breakfast. Arrived at the service centre to find loads of other people who had also encountered unfavourable things happening to their ASUS devices and had to come in on Monday morning. Took a queue number and the queue was moving so slowly that I gave up and had to leave to go pick Zoey from school. Cabbed to her school, picked her up, grabbed McDonalds and cabbed back to service centre. Find out that I missed my queue number so have to take another one. This new number has like 20 people ahead of me.
In the meantime, Zoey is happily eating and drinking while we wait. She eventually poops which means I need to change her diaper, in an industrial building toilet. Go to the toilet, struggle with the door and end up cutting my finger with my own finger nail while attempting to lock the door. This is an amazing achievement considering I have lesbian nails! Frantically try to avoid getting blood on Zoey while changing her diaper. Zoey keeps asking “Why got blood Mama? Why got blood? Are you okay?” Manage to get out of toilet without getting any poop on my bloody finger. Consider that a win because who the hell manages to cut your index finger with the finger nail from your thumb?
Continue waiting for my turn and eventually manage to see the technician who promptly tells me that they need to take my phone in for checking and if I’m lucky, it will be 3 to 5 days. If there are no parts, it could be 2 to 3 weeks. I reluctantly hand over my phone. Even though I had known I might be without my phone for a couple of days, did not expect it to be so long. I then wanted him to check the RAM on my laptop for me. I had checked it myself recently, but wanted to know for sure if it was the RAM or HD causing the problem. Apparently he can’t take in the laptop just to check the RAM. I have to send it in for full check up and may lose data if they decide its a HD issue. I know my backup hadn’t been setup since I upgraded to Windows 10 so I decided not to leave my laptop there after all.
Leave the service centre and realise that I am now on a tight schedule to get to the office for a 4 pm meeting. Can’t call for a cab because my SIM card doesn’t fit in spare phone I brought with me. So smug that I had brought along another phone, completely forgot that old phones use old SIM cards. Current SIM is a micro SIM. On top of this, Zoey is now tired and wants to be carried. Manage to convince her to walk because my finger is “pain pain”. Walk to main road safely, but not before I step on a road side tile that tilts and splashes my feet with dirty rain water. Fortunately a cab stops for us quite quickly. We get home and I frantically start searching for a SIM card adapter to use. None are in sight.
Rush to call for a cab on the home phone while getting changed and searching for an alternative phone to use. Manage to find a SIM card adapter, but worried that it will get stuck in the phone slot as the fit issn’t great. Finally settle on a iPhone 3GS that uses a SIM card tray. Only problem is that it needs to be continually connected to a battery pack. But I’ll deal. Get to the office in time just to realise that I don’t have enough cash left on me and the cab doesn’t accept cards. Manage to scramble and borrow some cash from office building lady to pay for the fare.
Have my meeting and attempt to do follow up emails after. Office internet decides to fail at this point. After waiting forever for all the pages to load, I give up and shut down. Head to networking event instead. No time to eat dinner now. End up being really hungry at the end of the event, but too tired to go hunt for ATM. Decide to head home for dinner instead. Take the train and bus home instead as iPhone 3GS can’t install any taxi apps. OS is too old. For even WhatsApp. Also can’t load emails properly and the browsing is so slow, it’s like being on a 56k modem.
Get home, sit down with Irene and she listens to me rant about my day. That is when I realise that BAD days are nothing when you have someone to share them with 🙂 <3
