Due to the dramatic entrance Zoey made (she arrived less than 24 hours after our maternity shoot), it has become a family tradition to do a photo shoot every year. We try to wear the same clothes and use the same props so we can recreate the shots year on year. We used to go to iSnap in Chinatown, which was a great concept where you use a remote to take your own photos. However, we found out when we were going to do Zoey’s one year photos last year that they had closed down. So we started going to White Cottage Studios and it’s turned out to be a great and affordable option.
I will have to say that taking studio portraits are a lot easier with a two year old as compared to a one year old. When she was a month old baby, she just lay there and let us pose her in any which way. However, last year when she was one, it was truly a challenge trying to get her to do what we wanted or even get a smile out of here. This year was infinitely easier. We had expected it to be difficult as she had gone to school in the morning and had not taken a nap prior to the shoot. She proved us wrong by being extremely cooperative, posing for the photographer and even helping to select the props to use.
The best thing about these photos are being able to see how she has changed over the past 2 years. She has grown, her look has changed and even the way she shows up in the photos are different. This year she finally outgrew the t-shirt she wore in the first shoot, even though the dress still fits.

Our photographer this year was Gordon who is a former primary school teacher and truly knew how to capture Zoey’s essence. As you can see, the photos are really natural and these are actually raw files which have not been edited. I am seriously impressed! So do check out White Cottage Studios if you are keen to take family portraits. Their pricing is fairly reasonable and competitive with the current market rates. I know this because initially they could not slot us in on Zoey’s birthday and so I had to shop around for a new photo studio. Some of the quotes I got were outrageous and many times more than our budget. So I was really glad when Kenny managed to get Gordon to help us take these shots in the end. Will have to book them in advance next year so we get a great time slot and more great photos.
