Zoey has started to say her own name. Although it’s more like she is parroting what we are saying, it is a milestone that I have been waiting for.
The conversation when I have to be away from her now goes like this:
Mama: Bye bye Zoey! Zoey say bye bye to Mama.
Zoey: Bye bye Mama
Mama: Ok, bye bye Zoey!
Zoey: Bye bye Zoey!
The way she says her own name and waves at me at the same time is incredibly cute.
As she continues to build her sense of self, I wonder if we do enough to equip her with the skills she needs to survive in the world. Some days she is such an independent and bright child. Other days she regresses into this needy, whiny koala baby who only wants to cling onto me or her mommy.
We should be so lucky that she will need us for however long she requires and when she stops needing us, she will go out into this world well prepared for whatever it will throw at her. It is my hope the time between now and then is not fleeting.
For now, I look forward to the many cuddles, kisses and also nursing sessions. I know it will not last forever. She won’t always turn to me and smile so brightly when I pick her up from school. Picture below from a couple of weeks ago when I picked her up from school on Halloween.
